竹細工に使われる竹は、よく鍛えられた刃物と技術がなければ加工しきれません。堅く、ひとつとして同じではない竹が、やがて、等しくしなやかさを帯びていく。その過程を観察すると、常に道具は職人の手と一体になっているかのようです。竹の汎用性に比べて道具が意外とシンプルに見えるのは、何より要なのは職人の手そのものだからでしょう。The bamboo used for bamboo artifacts is difficult to handle without a well-tempered edged tools and skilled craftsmanship. Bamboo which was originally stiff and different each other is processed to become evenly elastic. Observing how craftsmen work the material, it almost seems as if the tools function as an integral part of their hands. In fact, compared to the versatility of bamboo, the tools appear rather simple. It might be because the key element is the craftsmen's manual ability.

More than 200 kinds of weaving methods are possible by combining the fundamental weaving patterns. Weaving in good balance while capturing sensitively the state of bamboo creates the regular continuity. It is possible only by human hands.
